This day in Indianapolis hockey history: May 29

A big birthday day: former Capital Ken MacKenzie, Chief Bernie Hill, Racer Larry Mavety, IHL Ice Brian Noonan and USHL Ice Lukas Laub.

Happy birthday to:
Ken MacKenzie: Left wing who played a partial season for the Capitals in 1948-49, splitting the year between Indianapolis and Buffalo. It would be the lone AHL season of a seven-year minor-pro career, much of which was spent in the "AA"-level USHL. A native of Winnipeg, he was born in 1920.
Bernie Hill: Defenseman who played 13 games for the Chiefs in 1955-56, their inaugural year. He was scoreless and tallied 16 PIM. He played in Europe, senior hockey in Ontario, and also in the EHL from 1949-57. A native of Toronto, he was born in 1929.
Larry Mavety: Defenseman who played 10 games for the Racers in 1976-77. He had two goals and two assists. Those games came at the end of a 14-year pro career that saw 248 WHA games from 1972-77. He had 37 goals and 150 points in the WHA, playing for the Los Angeles Sharks, Philadelphia Blazers, Chicago Cougars, Toronto Toros, Denver Spurs and Indianapolis Racers. He began a long junior hockey coaching career in 1979, and has spent the balance of the years in the Ontario Hockey League. He is currently the GM of the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs. A native of Woodstock, Ont., he is 72.
Brian Noonan: Right wing who saw two stints with the Ice -- from 1989-91, and again in 1998-99. In total, he played 180 games for the Ice, scoring 97 goals and assisting on 133. He had 40 goals and 36 assists in just 56 games with the Ice as they won the Turner Cup in 1990. He had 15 points in 14 playoff games that season. The following year, he had 38 goals and 53 assists in 59 games. He also joined the Chicago Blackhawks, playing a full NHL season in 1987-88, his second full professional year. He stuck in the NHL in 1991-92, and played for the Blackhawks, Rangers, Blues, Canucks and Coyotes. He had a career-high 41 points in 1993-94, split between Chicago and the Rangers. He had 11 points in the Rangers' Stanley Cup run that spring. After six full NHL seasons, he returned to the Ice in 1998, tallied 19 goals and 44 assists in 65 games, and signed a deal with the Phoenix Coyotes late in the year. He finished out his career playing two years for the IHL Chicago Wolves, retiring in 2001 after 16 pro seasons. He had 116 goals and 275 points in 629 NHL games. He has since settled in Chicago, and coaches high school hockey. A native of Boston, he is 49.
Lukas Laub: Forward who played 24 games for the Ice in 2012-13. He had four goals and four assists. He recently finished the 2013-14 season playing for Odessa in the NAHL, where he had 30 points in 52 games. A native of Rosenheim, Germany, he is 20.
