Ice forward Christian Hilbrich has announced a collegiate commitment to play hockey at Cornell University.
Hilbrich will join former Ice teammate Brian Ferlin at Cornell.
Hilbrich brings a lot of size to the Ice lineup, as he stands 6-foot-6 and 208 pounds. He will turn 20 in July.
The center has eight goals and 11 assists this season with the Ice, which has just reached the halfway mark. He is one of a couple of Ice players to appear in all 30 games this season. Hilbrich is also a key part of the Ice's outstanding special teams units, which include the USHL's top power play and a top-three PK unit. Hilbrich has five points on the PP, and also has a shorthanded goal this season.
In his career with the Ice, which has spanned a year and a half, Hilbrich has 18 goals and 16 assists in 80 games and has a plus-7 career rating.
He becomes the 15th player who has suited up for the Ice this year to commit to play college hockey.

Ferlin on USA Hockey WJC preliminary roster
USA Hockey announced its preliminary roster for the World Junior Championships, which begin Dec. 26.
Former Ice player and Boston Bruins draft pick Brian Ferlin is among the 28 players chosen for the preliminary roster.
Ferlin, who played for the Ice from 2009-11, is currently a freshman at Cornell, where he was the ECAC Player of the Month for November. He, along with Dubuque's John Gaudreau and the Ice's Blake Coleman, were the top American-born scorers in the USHL last year. Ferlin and Gaudreau are both on the roster.
A lot of familiar faces dot the roster, as 20 players on the USA team have USHL experience.
The team will be coached by former Fargo Force coach (and current Nebraska-Omaha coach) Dean Blais. Former Indianapolis Ice player Jim Johannsen is the general manager.

Friday notes: Bob Ferguson, Brian Ferlin
The Des Moines Register has a great piece on former Indianapolis Ice coach Bob Ferguson. "Fergie" led the Ice to a division title in 1997.
Fergie coached the Des Moines Buccaneers before his stint with the Ice.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette previews the Gamblers' two games against the Ice this weekend.
Also, a Twitter post noted Brian Ferlin adds to his honors as the national college hockey player of the month for November. Ferlin played for the Ice from 2009-11 and currently is a freshman at Cornell. Ferlin is also a Boston Bruins draft pick.

Monday wrapup: Ferlin the "surprise" of Bruins camp
For the second straight game, Brian Ferlin scored a goal in the Boston Bruins' development camp scrimmage. He had two goals over the two days of scrimmages, this one coming on a blast past Fargo Force goaltender Zane Gothberg -- who also surrendered Ferlin's tally in Sunday's scrimmage, and later stopped Ferlin on a breakaway. Bob Mand of The Hockey Writers has been all over the Bruins' development camp, and he has a synopsis here. He said it won't be a surprise to see Ferlin called the biggest surprise of development camp by some of the observers.
Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli weighs in on all of the prospects, saying of Ferlin "Good stick, protects the puck," said the line of Ferlin, Karl Spooner and Justin Florek was a pretty good one.
Erne's QMJHL rights dealt
Adam Erne, considered to be one of the top 1995-born players in the United States and a member of the Ice, was drafted 22nd overall by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax Mooseheads (whose GM, Cam Russell, played for the Indianapolis Ice in the early 1990s). However, Erne's rights were traded today to the Quebec Remparts for a considerable haul -- two first-round picks and a second-round pick.
Erne had told Halifax that he had planned to plaly with the Ice in 2011-12, but what Quebec gave up for him would indicate the Remparts and GM Patrick Roy believe they can sign Erne. He attended the Ice's Main Camp in June. The Ice forward has committed to play college hockey at Boston University in 2013 -- which would also be his draft year. Should he leave for the QMJHL, Erne would forfeit his college eligibility. Erne is scheduled to play for the United States in the Five Nations tournament in early August. The Journal de Quebec has a piece on the deal in French, where Roy is pretty high on the Ice forward.

Blake Coleman, the Ice's top scorer this past season and the USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year, has begun play at the New Jersey Devils' development camp. He centered a line with Justin Barnett and Joe Whitney today.
