Two June 14 birthdays:
Johnny Wilson: Left wing for the Capitals from 1950-52. He played 112 games in Indy, tallying 59 goals and 35 assists. He split time with the Red Wings both seasons, and stuck with Detroit after the 1952 season. He played 15 pro seasons from 1947-62, and 688 NHL games -- including 580 consecutive from his callup in 1951-52 through 1960. He tallied 161 goals and 332 NHL points with the Red Wings, Blackhawks, Maple Leafs and Rangers. He won Stanley Cups with Detroit in 1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955. Wilson became a coach in 1967 in the AHL, and was called up to the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings in 1969-70. He was the head coach of the Kings, Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL, and the Michigan Stags/Baltimore Blades and Cleveland Crusaders in the WHA. He won the AHL's Calder Cup as a coach in 1971 with Springfield. His brother Larry also played for the Capitals, and his nephew Ron Wilson has been a head coach in the NHL. A native of Kincardine, Ont., he was born in 1929. He passed away in 2011.
Joel Rechlicz: Right wing for the Ice for two games in 2005-06, where he earned 16 penalty minutes. "Wrecker" turned pro in 2006-07, and played stints in the IHL, AHL and ECHL, often racking up triple-digit penalty minutes. In 2008-09, he became the first USHL Ice alum to play in the NHL, when he played 17 games for the Islanders, tallying one assist and 68 penalty minutes. He has played 26 total NHL games -- most recently a three-game stint with the Washington Capitals in 2011-12. He recently finished his eighth pro season with the Hershey Bears, where he had two points and 87 PIM in 25 games. A native of Brookfield, Wis., he is 27.

Today in history: June 12-14
Catching up on a few days of Today in History birthdays as it relates to hockey in our great city:
June 12
Jeff Cooper: Goaltender who played 10 games with the Ice in their first two seasons -- nine in 1988-89 and one more then following year. He had a 3-6-0 record and a 4.06 GAA in black and silver. The Colgate grad played five minor-league seasons for AHL Baltimore and New Haven and IHL Muskegon, Saginaw and Indianapolis. His game with the Ice in 1990 was his final pro game. A native of Ottawa, he is 49.
Greg Olsen: Forward who played 63 games for the Ice in 2002-03, totaling 11 goals and 16 assists. It was the last of four pro seasons for Olsen, who had 52 goals with UHL Elmira the previous two years. Olsen also had a pair of playoff goals for the Ice that season. A native of Calgary, he is 36.
Chris Martin: A forward who has played 103 games for the Ice over the last two seasons, totaling 18 goals and 16 assists in the regular season and a goal and two assists in 10 playoff appearances. Martin is committed to play at St. Lawrence University next year. A native of Kanata, Ontario, he is 20.

Nick Deutz: One of the original Ice players, he was drafted by the team in 2004 and played 33 games for the Ice in 2004-05, totaling four goals and four assists. He split the year between Indiana and NAHL Billings. The next year, he played 36 games for Sioux Falls. A native of Moorhead, Minnesota, he is 26.
Alexander Kuqali: A defenseman for the Ice the past two seasons, where he has tallied one goal and 17 assists over 83 games. He also has a goal and two assists in 14 playoff appearances. A native of Pittsburgh, he is 20.

He had 25 goals in just 42 games the next year, which he split between AHL Indianapolis and NHL Detroit. In total, he had 59 goals and 35 assists for the Caps, which launched him into a long NHL career that included 688 games with the Red Wings, Blackhawks, Maple Leafs and Rangers. He had 161 goals and 171 assists in the NHL, and won the Stanley Cup in 1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955. In 1950, he only played one regular-season game for the Red Wings, but suited up in all eight postseason games. After retiring, he began a long coaching career that included the AHL Calder Cup in 1971 with the Springfield Kings and stints as an NHL head coach with the Kings (1969-70), Red Wings (1971-73), Rockies (1976-77) and Penguins (1977-80), as well as two years in the WHA with the Michigan Stags/Baltimore Blades and Cleveland Crusaders. His NHL/WHA coaching record was 243-335-98. A native of Kincardine, Ontario, he is 82. His brother Larry Wilson was his teammate both of his years with the Caps, and his nephew Ron Wilson is a longtime NHL head coach and has coached the United States national team.

He began playing professionally with the UHL Chicago Hounds the year after leaving the Ice, and has played 23 games with the New York Islanders between 2008-10. He has recorded triple-digit PIMs in all but one of his pro seasons, despite playing more than 50 games in a year only once. He played this past season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. A native of Brookfield, Wisconsin, he is 24.
