Ice goaltender Jon Gillies was named the USHL's Goaltender of the Week, for backstopping two Ice victories over the defending Clark Cup Champion Dubuque Fighting Saints over the weekend.
Gillies made 26 saves in a 6-1 victory on Friday, then stopped 41 of 43 Dubuque shots in a 3-2 win on Saturday, in which the two Fighting Saints goals came in the final five minutes -- both on a prolonged power play, one on a 5-on-3.
The USHL's busiest goaltender, Gillies leads the league in games played (20), minutes (1080), and with a 12-5-2 record, leads the league in wins. His .922 save percentage is tied with Green Bay's Ryan McKay for the league's second-best -- just .002 behind Sioux Falls' Stephon Williams.
Gillies, a native of South Portland, Maine, is committed to Northeastern.
The Ice will have a busy weekend, playing twice in Chicago and once in Muskegon to start a four-game road swing.
