Ice add six in futures draft

The Ice added six players to their roster list in the USHL Futures Draft today. The Futures Draft allows teams to draft 16-year-old (this year -- 1995 birth year) players to put either on their active roster or add to their affiliate lists. The Entry Draft -- in which all players are eligible -- will be held May 16.

The Ice looked pretty heavily to the northeast and Canada. Two of their draft picks were Canadian, another played in Buffalo, NY this year. Three more hail from Massachussetts. This crew, plus the handful of returning players and those selected in the USHL Entry Draft coming up, should provide a nice core for the Ice for the upcoming seasons. The Ice will hold all of these players' USHL rights for three years.

Round 1 (11th overall): Justin Bailey (bd: 7/1/95), Center, Williamsville, NY. He's a big guy, standing 6-3, 170. Helped lead the Buffalo Regals to the New York U16 championship this year.
Round 2 (20th overall): Max Domi (bd: 3/2/95), Center, Toronto. Yes, that last name is familiar. Max is Tie Domi's son. Stands 5-9, 175, considered to be a playmaker who wants to go the US college route. Bob McKenzie has a story on him in TSN, meanwhile Ken Campbell writes about Domi's likelihood of going to the USHL (and some junior hockey politics) in THN.
Round 4 (50th overall): Jeremy Gregoire (bd: 8/5/95), Center, Sherbrooke, Quebec. He was the #5 pick in the QMJHL draft this year and captained Team Quebec in the Canada Games
Round 5 (67th overall): Anthony Florentino (bd: 1/30/95), Defenseman, W. Roxbury, MA. Stands 6-1, 200. His EJHL pointstreak profile. Was invited to the USNDTP top 40 camp.
Round 5 (71st overall): Tyler Kelleher (bd: 1/2/95), Right wing, Longmeadow, MA. Has already committed to play at New Hampshire (with Casey DeSmith) but won't be college age until 2014, so he has a few years potentially in Indy. Here's a Q&A from the Deerfield Academy student newspaper.
Round 6 (80th overall): Patrick Fraser (bd: 2/3/95), Goaltender, Franklin, MA. Last year, he attended the USA Hockey national team goaltending camp along with the Ice's Jon Gillies.
